Ladies Fashion: What is in for 2010

What’s ‘in’ this year for ladies fashion? There’s been a subtle change in the colours – blue, green and purple seem to dominate the shelves, unlike the yellow of the last few years. You can still find yellow, but it’s not as prominent as before.
Just looking in the shops and online, the ladies fashion trends seem to be for gentle, feminine, floaty styles. Maxi or long dresses and skirts are very much in, which will be a relief to those of us way past our teens. The shorter styles are still there so no-one need feel short-changed (sorry!). Classic styles seem to be very much in vogue, which is good news, because these are timeless, never date and can be mixed and matched to make a different outfit for each occasion. They are also very suitable for formal and informal occasions and can be easily accessorised to suit the type of function. Jewellery and maybe light scarves can be added for a formal occasion.
One trend which will not suit everyone is a flashback to 1980s and 90s – think Madonna. It’s for underwear as outerwear. If you like it, go for it. However, I think this will be a trend more for younger women. Well some younger women anyway. I can think of some young ladies who would never be seen dead wearing this.!
Another trend is very much in keeping with blue being one of the favourite colours this summer and this is for denim. This does not only mean jeans, but jackets, coats, dresses, belts and handbags.
Looking through the catalogues, grey seems to be the new black. Light grey and dark grey seem to be more popular than black. Grey trousers and skirts can be teamed up with flowery tops to give a sumptuous summery look and creating the perfect capsule wardrobe.
